Many people have heard of yoga but yet
there is still a confusion as what yoga really is. A common
misconception is that yoga is a mystical form of exercise which you
contort the body into a series of strange positions. Many people thought
is a strange ritual and torturing workouts. None of these are true.
Yoga is a simple and gentle activity suitable for everyone. The
practice of yoga is not a religion. The early yogis spent their lives
living in forests or caves and observing all the living things - the
animals, the plants and the trees. They dedicated their lives searching
for the answer to the question, "How do things in nature live
healthfully and actively?" Using their bodies they imitated, practiced
and followed the kinds of movement and exercise of nature, the trees,
animals and plants. They name the postures (asana) after animals, trees
and vines. Some of the asana are the snake, fish, eagle, tree and vine
postures. These early yogis found that after regularly following and
imitating the movements of the various animals, they began to feel
strong and wonderful. With more practice their bodies and minds became
even more strong.
